"I find the female vocalist's style pretty annoying, but "Laughing Lover" is ok. Band was forced to change their name rather quickly for obvious reasons, which explains all the copies with Tragics stickers. Stock vinyl copies were later packaged in alternate sleeves. Reissue is either black vinyl in limited silkscreen sleeve or clear vinyl in standard sleeve" JF

Circus Mort was a post-punk band from New York City. Formed in 1979, the band included future Swans leader Michael Gira on vocals, guitarist Rick Oller, bassist Dan Braun, Josh Braun on keyboards and Angelo Pudignano on drums. Jonathan Kane, also of the Swans, would become the third drummer for the group. The group recorded only one LP, a self-titled effort on their own Labor imprint label, before disbanding in 1981.

After splitting up Tom Robinson Band in the end of 1979 Tom formed a new band Sector 27 with Joe Burt. The line was: Tom Robinson (vocals, guitar), Joe Burt (bass), Stevie B. (guitar), Derek Quinton (drums). The first gig was as soon 11 January 1980 in Liverpool.
When Tom Robinson signed to EMI it was a five records deal. Under that deal Sector 27 recorded it's first LP to EMI, but EMI didn't like the material. In June 1980 EMI said that Tom is now free from the contract, give him the master and said he can do whatever he want with it. It didn't take long to find a new label. Small label Panic Record releases a single (Not Ready) from that EMI material.
Maybe expectations after TRB where too high, music a little bit different and no hits with four single, so Tom quit the band in October 1981 and started a solo career.

Jayne/Wayne County's most audacious album is also, though it's not something said every day, among the most important albums of its age. Released in 1979 just as the new wave was teetering on the brink of some kind of bold step forward, Things Your Mother Never Told You was one of the sudden shoves which sent it sprawling into its destiny. Electro-punk starts here. Producer David Cunningham takes only a portion of the credit; in years to come he would lead the Flying Lizards into the realm of heavily stylized electronica and even scored a few hits for his pains. But County's songs match his ambitions all the way, from the harsh, grating soundscapes behind "C3"'s muttered imprecations to the soft-spoken paranoia of "Waiting for the Marines," and onto "Berlin," the song that put into words everything David Bowie (among others) tried to convey about that city via image and insinuation. It's not all electro-art smarts, of course. "Boy With the Stolen Face" and the pouting, punishing "Wonder Woman" are archetypal Electric Chairs -- a reminder of how, at the band's very best, they could run the Rolling Stones close in the swaggering rock & roller stakes -- and the murder mystery "Wall City Girl" could have fallen off a forgotten volume of Nuggets or Pebbles. The title track, meanwhile, doesn't simply seethe with all the promise -- sexual, social, and societal -- which made County the superstar (s)he so very nearly was, it also lets listeners know why no one has ever truly snatched that crown away. The history of rock is lousy with artists who've threatened to fill listeners in on all the things their mothers never told them. But County is the only one who actually came out and did it.

These were Astronauts songs recorded under the name Restricted Hours and put out as one side of an EP produced as a fund-raiser for the Stevenage Rock Against Racism. The other side of the EP featured another WGC band, The Syndicate. Getting Things Done was re-released as a bonus track on the It's All Done by Mirrors CD; Car Crash has yet to be re-released.

When the Dishrags formed in Victoria, British Columbia, in 1977, they were like the Runaways without Kim Fowley's behind the scenes machinations: three teenage girls -- singer and guitarist Jade Blade, bassist Dale Powers, and drummer Scout -- devoted to the Ramones and the Clash and creating their own short, sharp shocks. Moving to the more punk-friendly Vancouver scene (where bands like D.O.A and the Pointed Sticks were already defining the sound of western Canada's new wave) in 1978, the Dishrags made their debut on the now-legendary Vancouver Complication anthology. If they had never made another recording, the Dishrags would remain beloved in punk-fanboy circles for the track "I Don't Love You." 103 seconds long and built on an insistent, scratchy guitar riff and a positively crazed drum part played primarily on the ride cymbal, "I Don't Love You" is as clangorous and primitive as U.K. second-wavers like the Slits or the Desperate Bicycles, but it also features an instant-classic pure pop chorus that would do the Buzzcocks or the Undertones proud. The Dishrags followed that up with a slightly more polished three-track EP, "Past Is Past," and following a lineup change -- Powers being replaced by second guitarist Sue MacGillivray and bassist Kim Henriksen -- the band traveled to London to record the EP Death in the Family. Produced by Chris Spedding and featuring a more traditional punk-pop sound akin to the Adverts' first album, Death in the Family was insistently tuneful and clever. The wistful title track seemed to have actual hit single potential, while "Love/Hate" explored a darker post-punk sound along the lines of Siouxsie & the Banshees. Though RCA's U.K. imprint released the EP, it disappeared almost immediately, and the Dishrags broke up. Over a decade and a half later, the Canadian reissue label Other People's Music gathered the complete recordings by the Dishrags -- the two tracks recorded for the Vancouver Complication sessions, including the previously unreleased "Bullshit," the single, the EP, and ten demos and live tracks including covers of Lou Reed's "Vicious," the Ramones' "I Don't Wanna Walk Around with You," and the Clash's "Janie Jones," alongside previously unheard Dishrags originals. This is a textbook example of how to do a punk-era reissue properly.

The real name of this band is simply 'Q', but as this name is not too distinctive for a music band, for some commercial reason the word 'Grupo' (Group) was added to the 'Q' on the front sleeve. However, we can read just 'Q' on the back sleeve (as a logo) and record labels.

Private Dicks were an amazing punk - power pop band from Bristol (UK).
They formed in 1979 and in the same year they released one of the best UK punk pop 7"'s in that season, 'She Said Go' on Heartbeat records. The band was discovered some years ago and bootleged on 'Killed by Death' serie, but also seriously produced by the 'cult' japanese label 1977 on cd. The band recorded also various GREAT quality studio material that you'll find here, in this amazing Lp. You can also hear the energy of the band with the three live tracks enclosed.
Well, if you're a fan of Jam, Undertones, Buzzcocks... this band will change your 'homelife' !

This record starts off well enough with "Fight Back" - an anthemnic opener and one of the Offenders' better songs - but I'm not really into the rest of it... Maybe it's the recording quality; the snare is so much in the background that it often sounds like the drummer is only playing cymbols, and the guitar sound is really thin. But I think the songs don't really have much to offer anyway - it seems like "tuneless thrash" for the sake of playing fast. Luckily the Offenders redeemed themselves on the next record.

Power pop bands who worship at the altar of Big Star are a dime a dozen today, but the Scruffs were doing that long before Alex Chilton became a cool name to drop, and Wanna Meet the Scruffs?, the sole album they released during their lifetime, is that late-'70s rarity, a slice of classic power pop that doesn't sound "new wave," unlike most of smart pop's class of 1978. Using Big Star and the Raspberries as a starting point, vocalist and songwriter Stephen Burns blended an Anglophile's sense of melody with a very American feel for crunchy guitars and the occasional power chord. And Burns' songs about dreams of rock stardom ("Break the Ice"), his vast array of romantic problems ("My Mind"), and his multitude of other anxieties ("I'm a Failure") suggests the neurosis of the early Modern Lovers sides without Jonathan Richman's willful childishness; in a genre where aggressive cheerfulness or good-natured arrogance were the order of the day, Burns' intelligent angst was something new and distinctive. And the band, anchored by David Branyan's tough, concise guitar leads, made music that was bright and hooky but still had backbone and plenty of punch; this is pop that earns the prefix "power." That so strong an album could slip though the cracks is both sad and puzzling, but the 1997 CD reissue of Wanna Meet the Scruffs? (augmented with two bonus demo tracks) thankfully restores a lost classic to circulation, and anyone who loves a good hook with an interesting idea behind it ought to seek this out.

Formed by Algy Ward (one-time bassist of seminal punk band The Damned), Tank's debut album, 1982's Filth Hounds, drew strong (and favorable) comparisons to Motorhead, a tag that would remain with the band virtually throughout their career. They garnered fine reviews and a good following for their first few albums, but by the mid-eighties interest waned, and by 1988 the band had had enough. Fast forward to 1998, Ward and several of his old mates came back together, releasing a couple of live albums followed by the long-awaited new studio album Still At War, which was in the works for ages before finally coming out in 2002. After another period of inactivity, a new lineup was unveiled in December of 2008, curiously not featuring Ward (retired from the business) but including original drummer Mark Brabbs and, interestingly, vocalist Doogie White.

Popgun were a Glasgow band playing beat music for the 1980's. Kevin McDermott and Roddy Johnson (both guitar and vocals) along with bassist Ross Drummond and drummer David McCormick played gigs and stickered every spare inch of Glasgow. Justin Currie of del Amitri brought them to the attention of Nick Low and the offer to be the second band on NoStrings followed. Unhappy with the name Popgun being used for the record resulted in a search for a new name.
The Suede Crocodiles emerged with their debut single "Stop The Rain/Pleasant Dreamer" in 1983 produced by Rab Noakes. A UK support tour with ex-Haircut 100 frontman Nick Heyward resulted in a pop fanbase devolping and Nick Heyward was interested in producing the proposed follow up single "Paint Yourself A Rainbow". Kevin McDermott parted from the band in 1984 and the record never materialised.
Kevin McDermott embarked on a solo career, based on a more acoustic sound, releasing the NoStrings mini album "Suffocation Blues" in 1986. The rest of the band changed their name to The Fourth Room. A selection of 13 Suede Crocodiles' recordings from the NoStrings archive were made available to Accident Records for the vinyl album “Stop The Rain”, which appeared in Japan in 2001.

Belgian synth-pop/electro/new wave band of the 1980's founded by Patrick Nebel. They had one very big hit in 1984 with their track "Beats Of Love". Afterwards the band released 2 more albums, but never had the same kind of success with these. Even worse, everything comes to an end in 1986 due to the death of founding member Patrick Nebel.

Unreleased material spanning throughout the 80s from two of the best Mod bands of the decade are now finally available to buy 007 - 1979-1982 - Based in London, they gigged constantly up and down the country, including a support slot for the Jam during the early 80s Although they were never to actually release anything, their music was just sheer brilliance - totally unacclaimed and unrecognised, a fact that we hope will change from this point on The Scene-1982-1987- Three members of 007 went on to form the Scene Named after the legendary 60s Mod Club the Scene released three singles on Diamond Records, which nowadays incidentally are increadilby hard tofind - and a track on the much acclaimed Countdown compilation 54321 on Stiff Records Their drummer was the original drummer for Small World and appeared on their Love Is Dead single released on Dan Treacy and Ed Ball s label WHAAM The CD version contains the three A-sides to their much sought after singles

Recorded live during the Tearjerkers 10 date tour of Ireland supporting Thin Lizzy between April 2-13, 1980. These soundboard recordings are drawn from two gigs but the exact details are unknown to me. The original cassette was housed in a cover with artwork taken from the Magic Roundabout animation series. The banana cover was created for the CD issue which was sold online for a couple of years and then deleted.
