Big Boys - 1980 - Frat Cars 7'' (US)

Big Boys - 1980 - Frat Cars 7'' (US)
.
The debut 7" by the Big Boys is one of those Killed by Death records that is actually worth all the hype. The Big Boys were already writing brilliant songs, including the amazing title track. "Frat Cars" is a snotty punk anthem on par with the Dicks' "Kill from the Heart." The other songs are a bit slower and more atmospheric, although "Mutant Rock" gets pretty manic as Biscuit rants "gimme gimme gimme gimme mutant rock!" "Heartbeat" is a showcase for Tim Kerr, already at the peak of his understated jazzy songwriting talent. They made 500 of these with handmade covers, but it has been reissued once and booted several times, with the song "Influence" substituted for "Mutant Rock" for some reason. At least it is the best Big Boys rarity.

Released in 1981, “Where’s My Towel“ aka Industry Standard was recorded at Rampart Recording Studio and produced by David Bean and the Big Boys. Limited to an initial release of several hundred copies, the album was released with hand silkscreened covers and included some of the bands’ most diverse and popular songs of the time including “TV”, “Complete Control”, “Identity Crisis”, and “Security”. Often hailed as the band’s greatest album, Where’s My Towel is a milestone in the history of Texas punk and an original pressing is now considered a major collectible.
