"The E.P.s of R.P." is a compilation of the anarcho-punk band Rudimentary Peni released on LP in 1986 and CD in 1994. It contains both 7" EPs, "Rudimentary Peni" and "Farce". It is available on CD from Outer Himalayan Records (catalogue no. BBOO3)
Tracks 1-12 taken from the "Rudimentary Peni" 7" EP, recorded at Street Level in 1981 and released in August that year. Tracks 13-22 from the "Farce" 7" EP, recorded at Southern Studios, London, in 1982, engineered by John Loder, produced by Penny Rimbaud and Rudimentary Peni, and released on Crass Records in July of that year.

"A Bus for a Bus on the Bus" is the only 7" single by Cardiac Arrest, who later became Cardiacs.
Until the release of the The Special Garage Concerts Vol II, none of the tracks on the 7" had been reproduced anywhere else. The single was supposed to contain four tracks and not three, but the limited space on the 7" format prevented it. The fourth track was to be "Keep Your Dead Mice with You" [1] [2], which was later re-recorded as "Dead Mouse" on the Toy World album. The single is one of the rarest Cardiac Arrest/Cardiacs items.

The Clocks were an early eighties Cleveland band that featured Pagans member Mike Metoff and drew upon local legends like Devo, the Dead Boys, and the Raspberries, but still managed to sound 100% unique. The six tunes on this single are pretty damn eclectic, running the gamut from a fantastic double-time pop version of the Stones classic they took the title from, to the sci-fi new wave of 'Slave Planet.' My favorite cut though is 'Confidentially Renee,' a tune so perfect that it draws easy comparisons to both the Eat and late period Gizmos. If they ever made a 'Can't Stand The Midwest' volume two, this song should definitely be on there. As you might expect, this is limited and all of that jazz, so I'd get on this quick if you want to be able to hear this gem of a single.

Y Trwynau Coch or 'The Red Noses' were a Welsh punk band from the late 1970s. Whilst they were not quite the first Welsh punk band (that honour goes to the Llygod Ffyrnig - the 'Fierce Mice', I believe), they became the best known and most successful and were even played on Radio 1 by John Peel on a few occasion.
Formed in Swansea in 1977 the band comprised Ian Jones, Huw Eurig, Rhys Harris, Alun Harris and Huw Chiswell, formed their own record label in the true punk tradition on which they released their own material. Their repertoire featured material such as Byw ar arian fy rhieni (Living on my parent's money), Mynd i'r capel mewn Levis (Going to the chapel in Levis) and the wonderfully entitled Lipstics britfics a sane silc du (Lipsticks, Britvics and black silk stockings).
They notably achieved a certain notoriety for their song Merched Dan Bymtheg, the chorus of which went something like this;
Rwy'n afal yn feddwl am ferched dan bymtheg
Y fel ma nw'n siarad, a fel ma nw'n cerdded
Y fel ma nw'n siglo'u bethau bach hyfryd
W ata W ata, un drwy'r dydd
W a W a, un bob nos
Which roughly translated means;
I often think of girls under fifteen
The way that they talk, the way that they walk
The way that they shake their pretty little things
Ooh ata Ooh ata, one through the day
Ooh ah Ooh ah, one every night
This was fairly shocking even for 1978, since sixteen is the age of consent for heterosexual sex in England and Wales and the reference to under age sex and the fairly obvious allusion to masturbation was enough to get them banned from the local radio station, Swansea Sound. (Even if the whole thing was very much tongue in cheek.) The band retaliated by recording a rather disparaging song about said record station. (Much in the same vein as the Sex Pistols' EMI.)
This was of course before McMartin, so there was not quite the same level of hysteria generated as would be the case today. In any case, since they were singing and recording in Welsh, very few people understood what they were on about. As far as the Welsh speaking population of Wales was concerned there was however little in the way of any backlash against the band. They were, if anything, viewed with a sort of amused tolerance; they were after all doing it in Welsh, you see.
Since no one ever makes any money out of Welsh pop music (unless you start singing in English), the band came to an end in 1980 as its members had to get real jobs and duly became accountants and doctors or something important in Welsh television

Formed at Auckland Technical Institute by Graphic Design students, Cooke, Munroe, Simons and Hart as The 1B Darlings in 1976, the band was heavily influenced by British R&B, Glam Rock and 60s US Garage Rock. In 1977 they renamed themselves The Scavengers, gave themselves new names (Cooke as Johnny Volume, Munroe as Des Truction, Simons as Mike Lezbian and Hart as Mal Icious), and their style mutated in the direction of the US Punk rock and pre-Punk Rock acts.
Through much of 1977 they were, with The Suburban Reptiles, the only Punk bands in Auckland. In June 1977, with The Suburban Reptiles and The Masochists, they played New Zealand's first major punk gig at Auckland University. During this time their repertoire was mostly covers but by early 1978 they had written a set of original tunes.
In late 1977 bassist Hart left to be replaced by Brendan Perry. He later reappeared in The Stimulators.
In March 1978 they began a residency at new Auckland Punk Club, Zwines. Soon after Simons left (inspiring their signature song "Mysterex"), and Perry moved to vocals.
Two Scavengers tracks appear on the Ripper compilation AK79 and a posthumous album was released in 2003.
In 1979 The Scavengers moved to Melbourne, Australia and in 1980 renamed themselves The Marching Girls. Perry later formed Dead Can Dance and Munroe played briefly for The Birthday Party during the band's final tour in New Zealand. Both Cooke and Munroe are still working musicians in Melbourne.
The Scavengers were hugely influential in Auckland in the late seventies, inspiring a whole generation of young bands and their importance goes far beyond their few releases.
They reformed in 2004 for a one off show in Auckland without Perry, and again at the AK79 reunion in 2008.

The Detour label opens the vaults and unearths this late 70's canister marked "Mod Revival". Spearheaded unwittingly by The Jam (and later The Style Council), The Merton Parkas, Secret Affair, The Chords and others, this short-lived "scene" belched forth some excellent bands who knew their way around a tune, but weren't quite angry or silly enough (take your pick) to be considered "punk". Worshipping The Beatles while their contemporaries burned effigies of politicians and spiked their hair with soap, these bands were throwbacks to a less complicated era in rock music, and, along with Lennon & McCartney looked up to The Small Faces, early Who and The Creation, while their friends engaged in heated pub debates over the ability of Sid Vicious to even tune his bass guitar.
Worth looking for just to hear "Blood Spattered With Guitars". Great album title as well. Musically, if this band were around a few years ago they might have been on Cruz Records. Hi-octane pop. Great stuff.
